Pod kůrou stromů žije mnoho skupin hmyzu, hlavně brouků (Coleoptera) a blanokřídlých (Hymenoptera), z nichž řada hostí ve svých požercích bohatá společenstva hub. Výzkum se zaměřuje na interakce dřeviny s podkorním hmyzem a s houbou. Nejčastější potravní strategie podkorního hmyzu jsou xylomycetofagie, floemofagie a saprofagie.

ub-bark insects include numerous insect groups, particularly beetles (Coleoptera) and hymenoptera, i.e. ants, bees, wasps and sawflies (Hymenoptera). Some of them host rich fungal communities in their microhabitats. Researchers focus on the interactions of the wood, sub-bark insects and fungi. The most common feeding strategies in sub-bark beetles are xylomycetophagy, floemophagy and saprophagy.
