Studium fylogeneze kytovců (Cetacea) zaznamenalo v uplynulých 10 letech velký pokrok, řada otázek však stále není dořešena. Vedle klasických metod paleontologických se ke studiu příbuzenských vztahů mezi prakytovci (Archaeoceti), kosticovci (Mysticeti) a ozubenými kytovci (Odontoceti) i jejich předky a sesterskou skupinou sudokopytníků (Artiodactyla) využívají v současnosti také analýzy molekulárních dat, studium sluchového aparátu a mikrostruktury skloviny zubů.

Although there has been huge progress in our knowledge of cetacean (Cetacea) phylogenesis since the mid-1990s, a large number of related questions have not yet been answered. In addition to standard paleontological methods, relationships between ancient whales (Arachaeoceti), balean whales (Mysticeti) and toothed whales, dolphins and porpoises (Odontoceti), their ancestors and related even-toed ungulates or artiodactyls (Artiodactyla) are studied by molecular biology techniques and hearing system and enamel (substantia adamantina) microstructure analyses.
