Hrad Helfštýn stojí na masivu Maleník nad údolím řeky Bečvy v Moravské bráně. Svahy Maleníku patří do karpatské botanické provincie. Zdejší lesní porosty (dubohabřiny, acidofilní doubravy, květnaté bučiny, acidofilní bučiny a suťové lesy) jsou poměrně zachovalé a zajímavé vzhledem k extrémnímu sklonu svahů a minimálnímu lesnickému hospodaření.

The Helfštýn Castle is located on the Maleník range above the Bečva river valley in the Moravian Gate. The slopes of the Maleník range belong to the Carpathian botanical province. Forest growths (oak-hornbeam, acidiphilous oak, flowering beech, acidiphilous beech forests and scree-woods) in the area have been relatively well-preserved and are remarkable due to the extremely steep slopes and low-intensity forest management.
