Termín páramo označuje v geobotanice vysokohorskou formaci venezuelských, kolumbijských, ekvádorských až severoperuánských And mezi horní hranicí horských mlžných lesů a hranicí rostlinného života.

The term "páramo" in geobotany means the high-mountain formation in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and up to the north Peruvian Andes, between the upper limit of the fog forests and the limit of plant life. About 300 plant species grow in this formation and the Espeletia plants from the family Asteraceae are characteristic of all páramos as a dominant part of vegetation in higher altitudes. There they reach their highest diversity as well as flexibility in adaptation to the great contrasts of the páramo climate.
