Alluvial gravel bars are unique habitats inhabited by numerous invertebrate species with specific habitat requirements. Most specialised species preferring these habitats occupy early successional stages with sparse herbaceous cover. In Central Europe, they are among the most endangered species (e.g., Turks Groundhopper Tetrix tuerki or wolf spiders of the genus Arctosa). The non-altered stretch of the Morávka River in the foothills of the Beskydy Mts. is one of the last streams forming gravel shore deposits in the Czech Republic.
