When tracing genes, a computer analysis of a genome involves a transfer of a nucleotide sequence in a DNA molecule into a computer, the division of the obtained sequence into triplets of nucleotides which constitute the genetic code for the individual amino acids, and grouping these codons into wholes which code proteins, and thus form particular genes. Genes can be identified based on their kinship, using statistics or entropy. In higher organisms with a complicated structure of a genome, however, the above-mentioned computer methods do not suffice and need to be combined with experimental methods.
