The Crimean Peninsula can be divided into two quite different parts: steppes and mountains. The differences between these two parts involve a combination of climatic factors and differentiated relief and are reflected in the type of vegetation. In mountain ranges the vegetation differs according to the exposition of the slopes. Communities in species-rich high plateaux above the forest limit have a special composition.
