Although the Cape Verde Islands are called islands of never-ending summer, in fact it is possible to move from one season to another, either along the altitudinal gradient or by passing from the windward to the leeward side. The variability of climate together with differences in island areas, different altitude and vegetative coverage defines the character and diversity of local biotopes. Relative low species diversity and the high percentage of endemic species, as well as of alien species, are typical of the islands’ flora.
