Obecné poznatky o vývoji naší přírody v kvartéru a nové fosilní doklady z donedávna málo známých oblastí dovolily přehodnotit naše představy o poměrech během glaciálů a pochopit význam biokoridorů a refugií pro zachování a znovurozšíření některých prvků fauny a flóry. Např. význam sprašové stepi, jež spojovala vnitroasijské stepi se střední Evropou, nebo na lokální úrovni význam Třebovské brány, kterou se do Čech šířily xerotermní a stepní druhy na počátku holocénu, a citlivé lesní druhy během holocenního klimatického optima, případně vltavského říčního koridoru, jenž umožňoval migraci prvků alpského původu.

General knowledge on the development of nature here in the Quaternary period and new fossil evidence from the regions not properly known until recently enable us to alter our image of conditions during glacial periods, as well as to understand the importance of bio-corridors and refuges for the conservation and revitalisation of some components of our fauna and flora. Examples include the importance of the loess steppe which connected the inner Asian steppes with Central Europe, or – at a local level – the importance of the Třeboň gateway through which xerothermic and steppe species spread into Bohemia at the beginning of the Holocene Period, or sensitive forest species during the Holocene climatic optimum or those of the Vltava river corridor which facilitated the migration of elements of Alpine origin.
