V důsledku dominantního růstu invazních druhů rostlin dochází k zásadním změnám ve struktuře společenstev, často spojených s mizením původních druhů. V důsledku invazí dochází také k podstatnému snížení pastevní a pícninářské hodnoty travinných společenstev, k omezení dostupnosti vody a k dalším hospodářským škodám velkého rozsahu. Omezení výskytu invazního druhu pomocí introdukce specializovaného přirozeného nepřítele z původního areálu invazního druhu bylo v některých případech úspěšné. Přítomnost specializovaného herbivora nebo parazita navíc velmi účinně brání opětovné invazi.

The dominant growth of invasive plant species causes profound changes in the structure of invaded communities, often associated with loss of native species. Moreover, invasions of non-native plant species also cause degradation of grasslands, limit access to water and do other types of large-scale economical damage. There have been cases of successful control of invasive plant species using specialized herbivores or parasites introduced from the native range of the invasive plant. The presence of the natural enemy also prevents the invasive plant from re-invading.
