The concentration of total herbicide glyphosate and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) were determined in the urine of the Brown Hare (Lepus europaeus) from the Elbe lowland, the Czech-Moravian Highlands and Southern Moravia. Observed concentrations were at a general order of magnitude higher than human urine concentrations. Glyphosate and AMPA concentrations declined from November to December. This suggests gradual and relatively slow metabolization of herbicide used previously for different operations during the vegetation season. Significantly higher concentrations might be expected during the harvest season.
