Jihoamerické arowany (Osteoglossum) a australasijské baramundi (Scleropages) náleží k vyhledávaným a zároveň nejdražším akvarijním rybám na světě, to setká především některých barevných forem baramundi asijského.

South American (Osteoglossum) and Australasian (Scleropages) arowanas are among the most popular and at the same time the most expensive ornamental fishes in the world, especially some colour forms of the Asian Arowana (S. formosus). The irrational belief of eastern nations, that rearing this fish brings happiness, health and property, brought this species to the verge of extinction, and hence Asian forms are critically endangered. They are, however, a subject of prospering aquaculture. Other arowana species are also highly endangered. Besides drastic exploitation, the small number of progeny, the mode of parental care (paternal mouth brooders) and the fact, that they are top predators occurring in small population densities are among the main threat factors. The paper also describes doubts about the number of taxonomically recognized arowana species and points out that species diversity is likely higher.
