Invaze nepůvodních druhů a jejich důsledky jsou významnou součástí globálních, člověkem způsobených změn přírody a krajiny. Některé invazní druhy vytvářejí dominantní porosty s minimálním zastoupením původních druhů, a tím přispívají k šíření homogenní, biologicky chudé krajiny. Invaze nepůvodních rostlin mají i závažné hospodářské důsledky – zvyšují rizika záplav, způsobují zasolení půdy, invaze trnitých a nepoživatelných druhů snižují hodnotu pastvin. Nezanedbatelná je také produkce alergenů a jiných škodlivých látek.

The invasions of alien plants rank among the most important human-induced changes in the current landscape and global biota. Some invasive species create dominant stands with a minimal share of native species and therefore contribute to the expansion of homogenous, species-poor landscape. Furthermore, the invasions of many alien plants have profound economical consequences, ranging from the degradation of soil to the promotion of large flood events. Moreover, many invasive aliens produce allergenic or toxic compounds.
