Rostou zde druhy vysokohorské a boreální spolu s prvky nížinnými a teplomilnými, řada druhů cévnatých rostlin tu dosahuje v rámci ČR svých výškových maxim.

The Velká kotlina cirque in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. has long been referred to as one of the richest or even the richest botanical site in the Czech Republic. It turned out that this does not apply to vascular plants. Nevertheless, it remains an important botanical site, not only for diversity of vegetation but also for the presence of endemic and other species that occur nowhere else in the Czech Republic. The common occurrence of various geoelements and species with very different habitat requirements is highly significant. There are alpine and boreal species here together with lowland and thermophilous elements, a number of vascular plants here reach their maximum height within the Czech Republic. There are also both limestone and lime-cutting plants here. Although it is such an important botanical site protected as part of the National Nature Reserve Praděd, some rare plant species have already become extinct and others are at risk.
