Záchrana populací lidoopů a jejich upřednostňovaného prostředí vyžaduje kromě nemalých finančních zdrojů silnou podporu politiků a široké veřejnosti, vynucování příslušných právních norem, ekonomická opatření, účinnou mezinárodní spolupráci a v neposlední řadě i věrohodné údaje získané monitorováním a výzkumem.

At present, all great ape species are considered to be threatened by extinction. The most important factors affecting these remarkable mammals include continuing natural habitat fragmentation, degradation and loss, particularly large-scale land-use transformation into plantations, direct persecutionand in African great apes, diseases as well. In addition to large funds, saving both great ape populations and their preferred habitats requires strong support from decision-makers and the general public, law enforcement, financial tools, effective international co-operation and last not least, robust data gathered by research and monitoring.
