Klimatické změny ve východní Africe způsobily před 5–10 miliony let selekční tlak na lidoopy, který vedl k postupnému vzniku bipedie s řadou anatomických adaptací těchto primátů. Před 1 až 7 miliony let žila už řada bipedních forem řazených do rodů Orrorin, Sahelanthropus, Kenyanthropus, Ardipithecus, Australopithecus a Paranthropus.

Approx. 10–5 million years ago, climate changes in eastern Africa caused selection pressure on hominids, which resulted in the development of bipedalism with a series of anatomical adaptations in these primates. Thus 7–1 million years ago, some bipedical forms belonging to the genus Orrorin, Sahelanthropus, Kenyanthropus, Ardipithecus, Australopithecus and Paranthropus lived there.
