SINE). Všechny tyto cizorodé „složky“ mají zásluhu na evoluci (znásobování množství genetické informace – zmnožením jedné původní sekvence vznikají rodiny vzájemně podobných genů, účastní se komplikovaných přestaveb genomu – jak jednoho genu, tak celých chromozomů).

One tenth of the human genome consists of viral DNA – the remains of retroviruses which infected man or his forbears in the distant past, and which have subsequently been passed down from one generation to the next. A further one fifth represents another type of reproducing DNA (shorter active retro-elements, so-called LINE) and a further one tenth is formed by sequences which parasite on the above (so-called SINE). All these non-native components contribute to evolution (multiplication of genetic information – through multiplication of one original sequence whole families of similar genes appear, which participate in complicated reconstructions of the genome – either one gene or whole chromosomes).
