V jižní Africe najdeme mnohá překvapení. Jedním z nich je statný strom z převážně tropické a subtropické čeledi Bignoniaceae s vědeckým jménem Kigelia africana, jehož nejnápadnějším znakem jsou mohutné válcovité až 1 m dlouhé plody, tvarem i velikostí věrně připomínající salám. I přes svůj lákavý vzhled jsou bohužel nejedlé.

Many surprising phenomena can be found in southern Africa. One of them is a robust tree mainly from tropical and subtropical regions, belonging to the family Bignoniaceae, with scientific name Kigelia africana. Great, cylindrical fruits of up to one metre in length, with a size and shape reminiscent of sausages, are the most peculiar feature of this tree. Unfortunately, the fruits are not edible, in spite of their attractive shape.
