Samčí infanticida byla doložena už u více než 70 druhů savců, včetně několika druhů kopytníků. Autoři zjišťovali, zda se podobné chování vyskytuje u zebry stepní (Equus burchellii). Při analýze záznamů z let 1973-2000 ze zoologických zahrad Dvůr Králové, Liberec, Praha a Lešná-Zlín zaznamenali 10 případů napadení či zabití mláděte cizím samcem a 4 případy potratu samic po častých kopulacích cizím samcem (feticida). Další analýzy potvrdily riziko infanticidy a feticidy po připuštění cizích samců k novému stádu u 3 poddruhů zebry stepní, ale žádný případ se neprokázal u zebry bezhřívé (E. burchellii borensis).

Male infanticide has been recorded in more than 70 mammalian species including some ungulates. The authors studied whether such behaviour occurs in the Plains Zebra (Equus burchellii). When analysing data from the Dvůr Králové, Liberec, Prague, Lešná–Zlín Zoos (Czech Republic) collected 1973–2000, they found 10 cases when the young were either attacked or killed by an unrelated male. In four cases, females miscarried after being frequently mated by an unrelated male (feticide). Further analyses confirmed the risk of infanticide and feticide after a newly introduced male joined the herd in three Plains Zebra subspecies. However, no such case has yet been seen in the Maneless Zebra (E. burchelli borensis).
