Tuková tkáň je endokrinní orgán produkující početné cytokiny. Změna v jejich regulacích může být příčinou patologických pochodů u obézních jedinců. Význam tukové tkáně ve vztahu k diabetu a ateroskleróze je intenzivně studován.
