New Guinea is the last place on the planet where numerous scientifically undescribed freshwater crayfish species are expected. There are many caves with subterranean streams on this largest tropical island. Here we have provided details about the Czech astacological expedition, which focused on the discovery of the first cave crayfish of non-North American origin – Cherax acherontis. Our target area was the Papua province in Indonesian New Guinea.
