Kroužkování ptáků je metoda výzkumu migrace stará více než 100 let. Na území České republiky probíhá od roku 1910 a od roku 1964 pod hlavičkou Národního muzea. V současnosti se mu věnuje téměř 400 kroužkovatelů, v naprosté většině dobrovolníků. Kroužkování má významnou roli i ve sledování dalších aspektů ekologie ptáků a v neposlední řadě i ve výuce a vzdělávání veřejnosti.

Bird ringing is a method of migration research more than 100 years old. It has been carried out in the Czech Republic since 1910 and since 1964 under the auspices of the National Museum. At present, almost 400 ringers, the great majority of them volunteers, are involved. Bird ringing also plays an important role in monitoring other aspects of bird ecology and not least, in teaching and educating the public.
