Etiopská vysočina patří mezi oblasti s nejvyšší mírou endemismu na světě. Recentní výzkum hlodavců a hmyzožravců vedl k objevům nových druhů a dokonce jednoho rodu savce. Jejich genetické analýzy umožňují popsat, jakými evolučními procesy unikátní biologická rozmanitost v horách východní Afriky vznikala. Etiopské lesy jsou však zároveň kriticky ohroženy růstem lidské populace a politickou nestabilitou.

The Ethiopian Highlands are areas with some of the highest levels of endemism in the world. Recent research on rodents and insectivores has led to the discovery of new species and even one genus of mammals. Their genetic analyses allow us to describe the processes by which the unique biodiversity in the mountains of East Africa evolved. Unfortunately, Ethiopia’s forests are also critically threatened by human population growth and political instability.
