Borovice Nelsonova (Pinus nelsonii) je endemický druh východního Mexika s pozoruhodnou morfologií, systémem růstu a vývoje orgánů. Některé její morfologické znaky a vývojové charakteristiky jsou jedinečné mezi příbuznými druhy i v rámci celého rodu, případně se nevyskytují u žádných současných jehličnatých dřevin. Jedinečnost druhu potvrzují i moderní fylogenetické studie, což opravňuje jeho zařazení do samostatné sekce Nelsonia.

Nelson’s Pine (Pinus nelsonii) is an endemic species of eastern Mexico with a re­markable morphology, growth system and organ development. Some of its morphological features or developmental characteristics are unique among related spe­cies, within the genus, or are not found in any other contemporary conifer. The uniqueness of the species is also confirmed by modern phylogenetic studies, which justify its classification in a separate section, Nelsonia.
