První botanická exkurze po pobřeží ostrova Nová Guinea v místech, kde se formuje specifický typ vegetace nazývaný mangrove. Mangrove zahrnuje řadu vegetačních typů, jež se liší místními přírodními podmínkami, floristickým složením a strukturou, v jednotlivých typech se také odráží tolerance k zasolení, mechanickému poškození, kompetici s ostatními druhy i schopnost šíření a uchycení. Nová Guinea leží v centru světové diverzity flóry mangrovových porostů - vyskytuje se zde celkem 31 ze 40 druhů obligátně vázaných na tento typ vegetace.

The first botanical excursion along the coast of New Guinea, where a specific type of vegetation called mangrove is formed. This includes the whole range of vegetation types, distinguished through local natural conditions, floristic composition and structure. Individual types also reflect different toleration to salination, mechanical damage, competition with other species and the ability to expand and stabilise in any given locality. New Guinea is situated in the middle of the global diversity of mangrove stands and a total of 31 out of 40 species usually associated with this type of vegetation can be found there.
