The return of large herbivores to the Czech landscape is changing vegetation across hundreds of hectares. But how can we reliably study their impact on vegetation? In this article, we reflect on the advantages and limitations of remote sensing and field botanical mapping. The example of the Milovice pasture reserve shows that even accurate satellite classification may misrepresent the biological value of grasslands. We conclude that the two methods complement each other.
